In order to understand this Holy Saturday, we need to look at what was happening both outside and inside the tomb

If our desire for knowledge continues to increase without an accompanying revelation of the gravity and necessity of righteous obedience, then we run the risk of diluting the very theology we have so eagerly pursued.

The early Church understood how powerful community was. The Church established community as a vehicle to transport the Gospel from its inception. Today, I ask myself, what am I transporting? Does my life consist of gossip, slander, jealousy, manipulation, greed, or hate? Are my days spent transporting the good news of the Gospel? 

Five hundred years ago, Shakespeare hadn’t written a single word. The Spaniard Ponce de León had only just landed across the Atlantic and named the land La Florida. Queen Elizabeth I wasn’t even born yet. Five hundred years is a long time. Five hundred years before Jesus appeared one morning in Pilate’s courtyard, a chubby, bearded rabble-rouser was causing a ruckus in Greece.

Some time before he was standing before Pilate, Jesus said something difficult to the people who believed that he was who he said he was: You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. He said that you will know the truth. The Truth. What is Truth?

Repent. It’s a word that may be hard to define in our day. Yet, repentance runs through the pages of Scripture. It’s a key concept for the Christian life.

Jesus declares that He is the resurrection and the life in John 11. It’s not just what He does; it’s who He is. Resurrection isn’t an event. Resurrection is a person named Jesus.
