Jesus Through Generations | Cumberland Students

07.24.2023

If you were to ask the family group leaders of sixth-grade boys to define what successful family group time looks like, most of them would answer that they would be thrilled if they could just get 10 minutes of focused discussion. That is the norm in middle school ministry. But what God has been doing in one of our Cumberland sixth-grade boys family group has been far from normal. In the last year, Cumberland Students has seen this group explode into one of our biggest family groups in Passion Students. This group has seen 10+ students put their faith in Jesus at events like The Rising and Winter Wknd. Just this year, eight of those 10+ students have been baptized, publicly declaring their faith in Jesus. These guys join group Facetime calls during the week to go through the gospel of Matthew, and then meet up without their leaders to discuss what God is teaching them.

The story God is writing does not happen without the contributions of so many in our house. Leaders like those of this group of sixth-grade boys, Ryan Uffner and Jonathan Cheeseman, have gone above and beyond to intentionally love on and disciple their students outside of Sunday mornings. Ryan and Jonathan can pour out so much each week because their Young Adult group is pouring into them. Passion Kids has also played a huge role in the revival of this group of guys. Almost every single sixth-grade boy that was baptized mentioned Passion Kids as the catalyst for each of them wanting to know God more.

One student in particular, Jackson Malhotra, was in a fourth-grade tent at Passion Kids when he started pursuing a relationship with Christ. He was hungry to know more about who God is and started listening to the Passion City Church podcast in his free time. Over the last three years, Jackson says he has listened to every message from Pastor Louie.

Some of these sixth graders are now getting to serve our Experience team by helping park cars on Sunday. Those we served are now serving others at the young ages of 11 and 12. From Young Adults to Passion Kids to the parking team to the podcasts that we are launching to the world – sixth graders at Cumberland are having their lives deeply changed by the power of the gospel. The generosity of our church is reaping a massive harvest in the hearts of Cumberland Students!

The church is alive and growing stronger
