A Letter from our Pastor

Hi Passion City Family,

What an incredible Above + Beyond season! On behalf of Shelley, myself and our staff team, thank you so much for your astonishing generosity. Because of your investment, Passion City Church will be able to lean deeper into all that God is doing in and through our House. Every gift is doing more than simply meeting a need—it’s planting a seed for generations to come.

As we continue to stretch our faith, step out of “business as usual”, and exalt the name of Jesus, we want to put into practice an important rhythm that God has woven into the fabric of creation. For two Sundays every year, Passion City Church takes a step back from our normal routines and steps into Sabbath.

In Genesis 2, we see that after creating the heavens and the earth, the animals and mankind, God rested on the seventh day. Did God need a break or time off? Absolutely not. Instead, God gave us a picture of what it means to stop and bask in wonder. To stand in awe of who He is and what He’s done. When we Sabbath, we remember His power, His majesty, and His ultimate sovereignty over the world and everything in it.

On Sunday, August 24 and Sunday, August 31, Passion City Church will not be meeting in person. For our team, Door Holders, and our whole House, this is not just time off, but time up. We look up. We pause. We remind ourselves that even though God has invited us to play a unique role in the story He is weaving through eternity, He is the One who works in all things. God is plenty able to do what He wants on planet Earth with or without us. He has ultimate authority, and we can be content knowing the One who is worthy and able is in control.

During this time of Sabbath, I would encourage you to turn down the volume. Whatever that means for you and your family… turn it down. Free up your head and your heart, and make space for God to move. Stop. Rest. And remember that it isn’t all up to you. The weight of the world does not rest on your shoulders, but on His.

We have so much to praise Him for. This year has been full of miraculous moves of God all across our House. It hasn’t been easy—but our House has shown up every single day, trusting in the God who has been faithful through it all and who will continue to be faithful in the future. I pray that when we come back together, we have a refreshed and renewed view of the God we serve. Let’s continue to run this race that He has laid out for us with bold confidence in what’s to come.
