We’re on a journey as a House towards ABOVE + BEYOND Sunday. To prepare our hearts and open our hands to all we believe Jesus will do, join us as we observe a time for intentional Noonday Prayer beginning on Monday, August 6th, through Saturday, August 11th. We’ll center our hearts around the following intentional Scripture and themes as we journey towards ABOVE + BEYOND Sunday on August 12th.

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,” —Psalm 92:12-14 NIV
Who doesn’t love driving down to the beach?!? You know you’re getting close when you start to see the palm trees. They let everyone in the car know, the beach is nearby. You’re almost there! It takes years for a palm tree to become the iconic tree that we love. In its’ first 7 years, very little trunk growth happens. However, in the following 10 years it can grow 1-2 ft. per year.
The Psalmist says the righteous will flourish like a tree. If we choose to plant our lives in the House of the Lord we will flourish. At times the growth may look slow, but underneath the surface of our lives, God is transforming us to be more like Jesus. In time, we will bear fruit. Our hope is that many people in Atlanta, D.C., and the world will come and plant their lives in the House of God. His promise is true, we will not wither up and die, but we will bring about new life.
Prayer: Jesus, we love you and we love your House. Today, we plant our lives in the soil of your Word. We pray as we journey towards ABOVE + BEYOND Sunday tomorrow that our House at Passion City Church will be a place where people begin to flourish and become all that You have created them to be.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” —1 Peter 2:9
“That we may.” Passion City Church has a “that we may” culture. It is who we are. But why? How has the phrase “that we may” made its way into the very fabric of our House? Into the very core of who we are individually and collectively? It is straight out of Scripture, and it is every Jesus-followers’ God-given privilege. When we were dead in our sin, we couldn’t do anything, we were in darkness. Dead people can’t praise. But because of Jesus, His life, death, and resurrection, we now have the ability to turn our eyes, our attention, our affection, and our worship to Him. Scripture says we don’t “have” to praise Him for it, but rather we “get” to praise Him. We now “get” to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light.
“That we may.” It means we don’t “have” to hold the door open for others to come and experience Jesus, we “get” to. We don’t “have” to flag cars in as a part of the Parking Team, we “get” to. We don’t “have” to hold babies, or lead middle school family groups, or host a shuttle full of people, we “get” to. So also, we have the opportunity to joyfully prepare a place for those who’ve yet to experience the love of God and come from death to life in Christ. We “get” to go ABOVE so we are able to go BEYOND.
That we may.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for letting me into your plan the moment I trusted Jesus and moved from death to life in Him. Let your Holy Spirit speak to me and remind me that I am chosen, loved, and alive in Jesus, and let that cause praise to rise from my life. Lead me tomorrow and show me how I can be a part of what you’re doing to prepare a place for people who don’t yet know you love them. Thank you that you’ve given me everything I need! I don’t have to give you anything, but I get to be a part of it and give as a response to all you’ve done! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“I love You, O LORD, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;” —Psalm 18:2-3
From the beginning, God has meticulously and miraculously made a place for His people. In the opening lines of Scripture God breathes into existence space and fills it making not only a home for all humanity + creatures of earth but a reflection of his very Glory through this creation. As the story of Scripture unfolds, God in His power repeatedly makes a place for His children from desert plains to promised land. Place was and is important. Jesus remains the ultimate example and perfect Place Maker and Great Invitation, welcoming people not simply to a physical space, but to Himself. As we step into ABOVE + BEYOND and trust for exciting opportunity and buildings of metal and stone, we know and understand what we are truly inviting people to is not earthly structures but to the very God who created, knows and loves them. As David reminds us in Psalm18:2, Jesus is our fortress and place of refuge, our covering and our home. The Church He set into motion is a picture and tangible working out of His perfect love to care for His children and reach the lost, so our aim is to create spaces and opportunities for all people—those far away and those actively seeking God—to experience and know Jesus. What a privilege to be a place where Jesus is elevated and His glory reflected to the world!
PRAYER: Father, as we continue to move towards ABOVE + BEYOND, our trust is not in earthly treasures but in You—our strength, our refuge, our stronghold. Please allow Passion City Church to continue to be a place where we reflect these attributes in our House so that many will come to experience the Truth and Freedom found only in you, Jesus.
“Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’” “And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’” —Romans 9:25-26
Jesus is in the business of restoration. His supreme mission is to build His Church so that people who are far off, not beloved, and without a place can come near, be called lovely, and find their home. Here at Passion City Church, we choose to join in that mission.
Not only do we join in, we go ABOVE + BEYOND so that as many people as possible can find their place at our locations. We know that through our places, people find life in Jesus. That is why we give. That is why we grow.
PRAYER: Jesus, during this week leading up to ABOVE + BEYOND, remind us that we too at one point were not your people and needed a place. You restored us. May we now do that for others.
“On this mountain, the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines.” —Isaiah 25:6
Tables are one of the most important places of human connection. We shouldn’t be surprised then to find that throughout the Bible, God exhibits His love by showing up at tables. In Isaiah 25:6, the great prophet Isaiah speaks of a coming day when all that is wrong will be made right, and all that is broken will be made whole. God will prepare “a feast,” a great banquet for all His people.
As we stand in the week of ABOVE + BEYOND, let us remember a place is being prepared for us at God’s table. God always goes above and beyond in preparing a place for us, and in that, He asks His people to join and extend the invitation to others. He asks us to give our best so that we can prepare a place for those around us to encounter and experience Jesus.
PRAYER: God, thank you for preparing a table for your people. We ask that you would continuously open our eyes to how we can extend that invitation to others in our lives.
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” —John 14:3
As we enter ABOVE + BEYOND this week, may we be people who trust fully in the promise that Jesus has made. He is preparing a place for us, a place with room for everyone. Just as Jesus comforted His disciples with this promise, we know confidently today that there is no scarcity in the House of God, only plenty.
All great places require a great sacrifice, and Jesus gave us that at the cross. Our role as followers of Jesus is to be imitators of Him, to reflect His love to those around us, to be place makers. ABOVE + BEYOND is an opportunity to have our trust increase. Not trust in our plans or our finances, but trust that our eternal place is secure and God’s promises are unfailing. May we be people who make places for others to experience what we have experienced in Jesus.
PRAYER: Jesus, as we enter ABOVE + BEYOND, we desire our trust to increase and you to move. You are a trustworthy promise maker and promise keeper.
